2010 Chicago Jack Summit Recap: BIG SUCCESS!

Don't we all look f*ckin awesome?!

The 2010 Chicago Jack Summit Players

Whew! What a night. We made our goal of $1000 and had a hell of a time in the process. Big ups to everyone who came out, and more importantly, to everyone who DONATED. Your support makes a huge difference at the station as far as maintaining equipment, how we pay our bills, and keeping us on the air. Big ups to The Sound Republic/Spatula City Records for a big donation to push us over our goal. If you missed the Jack Summit, don’t worry, you can still get the uninterrupted mix by calling in before Thursday at 4pm, giving $10 to the station and requesting that as a premium. For now here’s the mix with our assclownery over it. If you listen carefully you can hear Frankie J say some naughty things.

Tonight! The 2010 Chicago Jack Summit!

The 2010 Chicago Jack Summit Lineup. Impressive

The 2010 Chicago Jack Summit Lineup. Impressive

Tonight is the big night, where DJ Sangre and I host 11 of the best Chicago DJ’s in one room for a night of house music, pizza, and supporting WNUR. We do this every year to benefit WNUR’s phoneathon, which helps keep awesome radio programming like ours FREE for you the listener. We only do this ONCE a year (not like those PBS clowns). Every little bit helps, and as an incentive, a meager $10 donation to the station will get you the ENTIRE, uninterrupted, straight-out-of-the-mixer recording of the show. Nowhere else in the world are you going to be able to get great music from this lineup all in one continuous mix. In addition to that we’ll have great promos ranging from mixtapes, signed albums, t-shirts, glasses, spatulas (yeah…) and more!

So please support WNUR Streetbeat as we are one of the largest stations playing underrepresented music over the FM airwaves, the greatness must continue and it will with your support!!!

D-T3CH/Karl Almaria on The Fringe!!!

Sorry for getting this up late. In short, if you know who D-T3CH is (hint: he headlined at Smartbar this past weekend), this post does not need a lot of explanation, and you should know what’s in store… If you do not know who D-T3CH is:

  1. That’s OK, it happens.
  2. Get yourself a copy of this mix below.
  3. Rock out to some of the smoothest, jazziest, funkiest sets I’ve ever heard on WNUR. Period.

This one’s for the househeads out there… Seriously folks, the man came from freakin Melbourne Austrailia on his world tour and stopped by the station thanks to a hookup from our man Karl Almaria, who spun the last third of this 3-hour session. There’s quite a bit of unreleased/secret/mega-exclusive tracks on this mix, so no tracklisting (per D-T3CH’s humble request) but the quality of the mix and the interview more than make up for it.

Rhythm Mechanics 02-01-2010

Greetings all! This was a really fun set to do. Over the weekend I did some digging in the WNUR archives for dope beats to toss in the mix, and I think I succeeded there with some old Natural Rhythm tracks and some smooth cuts from Guidance Records. I also procured some awesome deep house tracks from the usual sources, so mixing the old and the new in this set quite a bit. I’m at the point now where I really need to get better at knowing my entire library. I’m at around 1,000 tracks in active rotation, which to some DJ’s out there is nothing, but to me it’s more than I’ve ever had, so the back end of the set was on the fly, picking out stuff I’ve had for a long time but haven’t played recently and going to town. It made for an all-over the place set, but one thing’s for sure, it ain’t boring!!! I’ll have more info on this weekend’s shows in a later blog post this week, but for now, enjoy the set!

PS Don’t try and call to win tickets… show is NOT live. I’ve had day-time DJ’s yell at me for that… :-)
