It’s June, that means it’s summer right? Right.
I took the opportunity to play some fun jazzy, funky, jackin’ house that has a more upbeat feel. I recently got a pair of turntables and Serato scratch live, so I played around on that for this show. Word of advice, if you’re thinking about getting into the DJ game, learn to DJ with your ears first on either CD’s or actual vinyl before you try a digital vinyl controller or computer program.
Enjoy the mix!

This set got ridiculous. I couldn’t make up my mind about what I wanted to play… so I got a little ADD with the style. I think I managed to pull this one off though. Progression goes like this: Jackin(almost garage-ish) -> Tech -> Deep -> Progressive -> Club -> Electro/Fidget. My favorite of the night is a toss-up between the Milton Jackon remix of Crash, and Celestial Funk. Just really groovin, relaxing tracks.

Hey all, sorry I never put this one up. This wasn’t one of my strongest or smoothest flowing mixes, but there were some pretty good tracks in here. Kept the deep and techy mood up, plus some jackin/electro at the end.

What’s up Chicagoland (and the rest of the world!). This week I had special guest Rob Ellis on to play a live set of jackin/techy house tunes for your listening pleasure. Check the set and leave Rob some love here

Oh wait, this isn’t Rhythm Mechanics! DJ Sangre was out of town this week, so I stepped in to cover his show cause I’m a nice guy like that. I pretty much did the same thing I did last week, I went and got a bunch of new tracks on the internets and burned a couple new CD’s especially for this show. However it didn’t go over quite as well as last week. There’s good music, but once again, I managed to mess up and hit the wrong cue button when I came back to the decks after talking at the control board… same damn thing happened to me once hosting The Fringe before… maybe it’s a curse… who knows!
Be sure to check out Smartbar this Wednesday!

So I had to follow Johnny Fiasco, which mind you is no easy task (that set will be up on DJ Sangre’s website soon) but I have to say I upped my game for the first half of the show and threw down some house. Of the 20 tracks I played, 17 I had never mixed before, and burned them fresh on CD’s about an hour before the show. I dare you to listen to minutes 10 through 40 without bouncing around… Tune in next week as I host The Fringe again (Sangre is swamped with work this month). Maybe it will be me on the decks, maybe it won’t, but I guarantee there will be someone trying to top this mix right here. Don’t forget to bookmark us at wnur.org… Stay Tuned Chicago!

I don’t normally complain about my timeslot or show, because I’m lucky to have it, but it usually means that I am following some of Chicago’s top DJ’s whenever I come on. DJ Sangre, aside from throwing down some awesome live sets, is known for bringing in top-notch guests to perform on his show. Next week (April 6th, 2009) he will be featuring none other than Johnny Fiasco (OM, Klassik Fiasco), a fixture in the Chicago house music scene. Be sure to tune in or listen live over the intertubes, and don’t forget about my show, coming back after almost a month long hiatus. All I know is I’ve got some preparing to do!
Also, I hosted The Fringe this past Monday night with a jackin’ mix by Bryan Jones! You can get that mix right here! (right click, save as)
Cheers,

What’s up everyone! I finally got around to updating the look of this place, you’ll find a two column layout, and a simpler and more elegant posting structure. I apologize for being conspicuously absent from the airwaves this month. My mid-march slot was relinquished to Sangre who hosted a 3 hour set of awesome house music in my absence. The second half of that is hosted on his website, spun by Sean Smith of Smooth Agent Records. Check it out here!
Also, follow me on Twitter!
Tune in next Monday when I will be back on the airwaves rockin out to some good ass house music!
February flew by freaking fast! (Say that five times fast) I was feeling in a chill and relaxed mood, so I decided on some deeper tracks and then moved on to some more upbeat/techy stuff and ended with two VERY classic house tracks I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Also, I hate mixing Basement Jaxx tracks live (see: Be Free). Don’t hate the tracks, just mixing them. Other than that I was definitely rockin out on the decks, don’t believe me, peep the tracklist. Also COME TO SMARTBAR NEXT WEDNESDAY!!! Fo realz… I’ll be posting about that soon.
