Rhythm Mechanics

Greetings all! This was a really fun set to do. Over the weekend I did some digging in the WNUR archives for dope beats to toss in the mix, and I think I succeeded there with some old Natural Rhythm tracks and some smooth cuts from Guidance Records. I also procured some awesome deep house tracks from the usual sources, so mixing the old and the new in this set quite a bit. I’m at the point now where I really need to get better at knowing my entire library. I’m at around 1,000 tracks in active rotation, which to some DJ’s out there is nothing, but to me it’s more than I’ve ever had, so the back end of the set was on the fly, picking out stuff I’ve had for a long time but haven’t played recently and going to town. It made for an all-over the place set, but one thing’s for sure, it ain’t boring!!! I’ll have more info on this weekend’s shows in a later blog post this week, but for now, enjoy the set!

Greetings all, hope everyone out in the Chi is having a frigid-ass time… I went out and grabbed a ton of new-to-me music for this show and carefully picked out the tracks and set a good pace for the show. Show starts out with a bunch of jackin’ tunes, then progresses through to some deeper stuff at the end to round out the night. The end result was a set that was not only smooth, but upbeat and jazzy, probably my best since October of last year! I liked it so much, I uploaded it in 192kbps format and actually filled out all of the mp3 tag info, share with a friend!

Also, Feb 5th I will be droppin some tunes with Mixwell House on their show “Boom’s Day Operation” on MyHouse-YourHouse Radio, get excited for that!

Our (myself and DJ Sangre’s) good friends Jeff Bloom and Andrew Emil (PO!NTF!VE, FourPlay, Broadway & Wilson) called us up over the weekend and said they had Belgian DJ’s Ricardo (Gourmand, Herbal Essence, Belgium), David Foyh (Beaubar, Jacksteppers, Belgium) and Jensen (Decadance, What’s Cookin, Belgium) in town and wanted us to host them. Needless to say we couldn’t refuse, and the gang showed up and we all had a freakin’ blast in the studio that night! These guys threw down some awesome tunes that they picked up from Gramophone that day, and gave a preview of their show at Uptown Lounge. Big ups to all 5 of them for making this night happen! What’s up out there… I tried to keep this set a little more upbeat, but still pretty smooth. Track selection was pretty good, but for some reason I could not get the hang of the decks tonight… oh well! I was dancin around the studio the whole time this set was being mixed. Lots of jazzy, soothing, but funky tracks in here, INCLUDING some by David himself! The man dropped some serious sweat and energy into this set so please give it a listen.  If you must hear more of this awesome style, catch him out at the Uptown Lounge this Saturday Night where he’ll be spinning a mix of this all night long, with no cover and free ice with any mixed drink . He played for about an hour and a half, and then sat down to give his thoughts on house music, where it’s come from, how technology has advanced it, and where it’s going to go. An interview that actually made me feel like a real live radio DJ.
